Carrying out this analysis will be illuminating, both in terms of pointing out what needs to be done and putting problems and opportunities into perspective. SWOT Analysis Strengths - What advantages does your company have?
- What do you do better than anyone else?
- What unique or lowest cost resource or skill/knowledge do you have access to?
- What do people in your market see as your strengths? What’s the attract factor?
- What factors mean you get the sale? How do you close the deal?
- What are your biggest sellers? Most profitable sellers?
Weaknesses - What are your greatest concerns?
- What’s your biggest distraction/headache?
- What could you improve?
- What are some obstacles? What would make the business operate smoothly if you could get it tomorrow?
- What are your biggest complaints (reasons for return) from your customers?
- What factors make you lose the sale?
Opportunities - What are your greatest opportunities?
- Which product lines do you want to grow?
- What are the interesting trends or changes in your market? Economic crisis?
- Changes in technology?
- Changes in government policy?
- Changes in social patterns, population profiles, lifestyles, etc.?
- Local events?
- Is there any strength you have that could create an opportunity? If you eliminate a weakness, could that create an opportunity?
Threats - What obstacles do you face?
- What are your competitors doing that you worry about?
- Are the specs for your job/product/services changing? Product life cycles?
- Are there any factors beyond your control that place your market strategy/business at risk?
- Do you have any bad debt or cash flow problems?
- Are supplier costs going up?
- Any bad publicity?
- Could any of your weaknesses seriously threaten your business?
- What are your sales and marketing strategies?
- Where do you see yourself and your company in 5 years and then in 10 years?
